How to make Liquid black soap from scratch and precautionary measures to avoid defective product.
Black soap is a gift to mankind, It is a beautiful soap. It comes in different shades of Brown and this depends on the method adopted in processing the soap, Generally Nigerian black soap appear darker than Ghanaian black soap. Moroccan black soap is prepared with Olives and Essential oil such as Argan and eucalyptus oil. Despite these differences the underlying principle is the same.
Nevertheless, you can decide to buy already made black soap then use it in the formulation of the Liquid black deep exfoliating soap. So lets begin....
General Black soap procedure
1)The leaves and Skin from Potassium rich plants such as Banana, Plantain, and Shea nut tree are burnt to form ash

PRECAUTIONS
When making Liquid Black soap don't assume nothing will go wrong then you get careless about it. Always wear your face masks, measure accurately then document your findings... at least you can track the out come of your product. That said I will list the problems I have noticed and those that I think may hamper the success of your product..

Always wear your face masks, measure accurately then document your findings... at least you can track the out come of your product. That said I will list the problems I have noticed and those that I think may hamper the success of your product..
1) Too much oil: While it is great to add a myriad of oils to your liquid soap, it can reduce the soap's lathering property. If you desire the softening effect of oils you can increase the quantities of Almond and Coconut oil. Olive oil in excess can reduce the lathering properties of your Black soap.
2)Too much Omi aro: This happened to me and I lost a lot of my soap. The first time I made my Liquid black soap the container I used was not big enough to contain the effervescence that my Omi-aro(Dye water) generated. Now I know better and use a wide and big vessel when making my soap enough to accommodate the effervescence.
3)Fake!!!: This could undermine your final product. Ranging from fake Omi-aro to substandard lime water, even fake organic powders. Omi-aro should be dark coloured not pale brown that some sellers offer, also the Lime juice should smell like Lime (of course) and should give off slight effervescence when poured on sand. You can extract your Lime juice yourself or Lemon if like. Lastly try to buy from trusted suppliers.
4) Excess Sulphur: Owww I love me some Sulphur, it definitely boosts your product a notch but take heed lest you fall... (Just kidding). Well I added a lot of Sulphur in my first Liquid black soap and I noticed that a characteristic smell still lingered even after bath.
5) Under Mixing: I usually advise you mix the powders first, then gradually incorporate the liquid and mix properly. If you just pour all the contents hoping to mix afterwards the final product may contain lumps of powders, also a hand mixer will help make a homogenous mixture
6) Black soap change to Ashy crumbly soap: Ensure you cover all unused raw Black soap in a Ziploc bag or wrap it properly in a thick carton. The bottom line is to avoid over exposure to air. Remember also that Black soap is made with Potassium lye hence the resultant soap will be soft unlike that of Podium hydroxide lye.
7) Dry skin: Use a moisturizer if you have a dry skin when using Black soap, However if the soap was made with an adequate amount of skin moisturizing oil that would help too.

DeletePlz I made my black soap with omiaro, coconut oil, honey, glycerin, rice powder, tumeric powder, egg white n yolk, camwood powder,7days skin corrector serum, kojic powder, vitamin c powder, lemon juice and banana fragrance.after 3days the mixture started changing colour to black Asif it's spoiling. Can u advise me plz
ReplyDeleteTry using Kojic dipalmitate instead of kojic powders because it is has a more stable ph level
DeleteKojic acid oxidizes very quickly hence changing the color of your products.
And you can maybe try some preservatives too and make sure to check and balance your ph level
Meanwhile please follow me on my Instagram page @queen_uzezi and say hi😊. Hoping to launch my skincare brand soon
I think the level of Vitamin C containing actives are too high so you run a high risk of oxidation. Also the egg white and yolk can encourage degradation of your product. Did you use a preservative? If so, what level ?
