Wonderful Six Skin lightening agents

Skin lightening is process of reducing the production of a skin pigment called melanin, Although it is generally practiced, it can go wrong when not done correctly and such damages are usually not pleasant😓. What should be done to achieve an even skin tone when lightening? Lets find out what agents we should look out for in our skin care products ...😉

1) Glutathione: One of the mechanism of action of glutathione is to inhibit tyrosinase an enyzme important in melanin production. An increase in the body's concentration of glutathione will increase the level of pheomelanin (responsible for red pigment) and reduce the concentration of eumelanin (responsible for dark skin color). Glutathione is available in form of creams, face washes, tablets, and injections. It is better when used with vitamin c and R- lipoic acid.

2) Kojic acid: It acts by inhibiting the function of tyrosinase, it is an antioxidant and is good for sun damaged skin. Kojic acid is usually applied topically.

3) Licorice extract: It contains glabidrin which absorbs UVA and UVB which is a powerful and effective skin whitening element, It also blocks the action of tyrosinase hence reducing the production of melanin.

4) Vitamin C and B3: A skin lightening cream that contains any of these vitamins is a winner (in my opinion) Vitamin B3 also known as niacinamide when applied topically on the skin will not only lighten the skin gently but it gives an even and well hydrated skin.

5) Lemon: Mix freshly extracted lemon juice together with its pulp with honey. Apply the mixture on the skin, leave it on for at least 15 minutes and wash off. For dry and sensitive skin please consult your dermatologist before using this combination. Generally results should be noticed in a week.

6) Mulberry leaf extract: Mulberry leaf has both antioxidant, anti-aging and skin lightening properties.
